Just tried again with today’s latest release (and Owncloud 6.0.1) and all looks well now.

Should the images of contacts synced back FROM mobile device TO owncloud?
it seems to work for me only in one direction: FROM owncloud TO mobile.

Cyanogenmod 10.2 / Android 4.3

Yes, this should work. If it does not, please give detailed steps to reproduce and log output.
