@rfc2822
Thanks, that worked!
I exported all contacts into a vcf.
Deleted all contacts in the DAVx5 account and reimported from vcf.
Hopefully nothing got lost, can’t check everything in detail.
A bit of a long way round but at least it worked.
Hi,
I noticed that recent versions of Google Contacts show the non-addressbook account.
See attached screenshot of Google Contacts_v3.30.2.327885095
This is confusing.
The AOSP contacts app doesn’t show this problem
Older versions of Google Contacts don’t show this problem either.
Google Contacts_v3.29.1.324588640:
Is this a bug in Google Contacts or something that can be addressed in DAVx5?
Google Contacts being https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.contacts
Hi,
Is this the inverse problem of https://forums.bitfire.at/post/13115?
Well but we must not release updates anyway… so no reason to make a workaround for their fix in time…
@rfc2822 seems you ran into this issue yourself. Quoting from https://forums.bitfire.at/topic/2333/can-t-save-contacts-with-google-contacts/15?_=1603457968087
"
It might be related to another problem: Google Contacts does not only show the address book accounts, but also the main account, which is not used for storing contacts
"
@mbiebl Ah I remember. I don’t know a solution for that as it seems a problem in the Contacts app (because there is no sync adapter for the contacts provider for the main account type).
Hm, too bad. Unfortunately I found no way to report this issue to the maintainers of the Google Contacts app.
@rfc2822 As said, this behavior started with v3.30, v3.29 still works fine. So there is a regression in the contacts app.

Me neither. I guess they don’t care whether DAVx⁵ accounts are processed correctly or not…
Note: This is still a problem and I still didn’t find a way to report this bug.
Maybe I’ll add an FAQ entry.

I have tried to reproduce this problem, but I couldn’t recreate this issue.
@mbiebl you have given your version above, but there’s a newer version in the Google Play Store:
Can you try again if the problem is still there with this updated version?
@Patrick-Lang Problem is still reproducible with the latest version of Google Contacts, i.e. 3.35.2.339480415
@mbiebl
Alright, now I see the problem. Actually I checked in the wrong view. But it’s interesting, if you’re opening Settings -> Accounts, then all accounts would be displayed correctly. Only in the view to change the address book the additional one is shown. I guess this would make it even harder to find a workaround fix for this problem…
The more important problem is, that you can select this account when creating new contacts.

I don’t think it is. Reverting this particular commit, did not solve the problem.
Because people are more often complaining about this in the last weeks we’ve created a new FAQ entry describing the problem:
[Google Contacts] Why are there “DAVx⁵ Address book” and “DAVx⁵” accounts?
https://www.davx5.com/faq/contacts/android-11-google-contacts
Good news.
Apparently this has been fixed in the latest version of Google Contacts, i.e. 3.39.1.356372497
If you can confirm this, maybe you can drop the above website again.
@mbiebl Yes, this has been fixed with Google Contacts 3.39. We’ll keep the page a bit for users who don’t update often, and then remove it.
