Read-only Calendar (Contact Birthdays) synchronization problem in Android
-
Showing the “Contact Birthdays” Calendar in Android (tested with
Android 8.1 and 9) the synchronization works fine. But if you opened one of the events and add a reminder, the complete
“Contact Birthdays” calendar will never be synchronized again. Even if
the calendar is “read only”, the DavX log file says, that DavX tries to
upload this change of the event (because of the added reminder) and
fails with an exception. Is this a known problem? I couldn’t find anything about this on the
website/forum/internet. DavX knows, it’s a read-only-Calendar. It’s possible to avoid the problem while not changing the Birthday events, but my mum doesn’t understand it and will always try to add reminders to their birthday events …log file:

Hello,
Please provide more information about your setup. Which apps are you using, which Android version etc? Please provide steps to reproduce and DAVx⁵ debug info (DAVx⁵ / Settings / Debug info as described in [READ BEFORE POSTING] What’s required to diagnose a problem so that we can have a look.

Infos added ^^
I’m running an owncloud installation and have DavX installed on several lineageos mobile phones with android versions 8.1 and 9.0.

Thanks. It shouldn’t even be possible to add a reminder to a read-only event… is the Birthdays calendar marked as read-only in DAVx5?
-
Hello,
it’s marked as “read-only” in DavX (see calendar “Geburtstage Deiner Kontakte” in the screenshot). By the way I’m not sure what exactly is the meaning of the other two symbols.
Nevertheless, the Stock Calendar App from LineageOS allows to add a reminder. It’s not possible to modify the event itself, but adding a reminder is possible.
Thanks so far. -
i just checked with simple calendar pro. It’s also possible to add reminders.
-
I see. I think it should not be possible.
Well, however please don’t add reminders to read-only events, it won’t work.
-
Yes … well I know but it doesn’t help
But just to understand: Is this implemented incorrectly by the calendar apps, or is the bug in DavX? -
I don’t think it’s specified somewhere whether read-only calendars may have alerts, so I guess this can’t be answered…
